36-Month Service Life for Agricultural Mulch Film with UV Masterbatch
The Challenge
The client's mulch films were degrading after 12-18 months of UV exposure, requiring frequent replacement and increasing costs for farmers. They needed a UV protection solution that could extend film life to 36+ months.
Our Solution
MHK Color developed a custom HALS (Hindered Amine Light Stabilizer) masterbatch with synergistic UV absorber package. Loading ratio was optimized at 3% to balance cost and performance. Carbon black masterbatch was added for opacity and additional UV screening.
Results Achieved
Field testing confirmed 36+ month service life under direct sunlight in tropical conditions. Film retained 85% of tensile strength after 36 months. The client reduced film thickness by 10% while maintaining performance.
